Unexpected discoveries
The image from the air above Dad's new house (courtesy of Google Maps) looks like this:
Dad's new house is just northeast of the "A" marker with the gravel backyard.
I was intrigued by what appeared to certainly be a swimming pool just over a block away to the east. So when we visited the area on Saturday, I suggested we check it out. There was no pool where it was supposed to be. There was a parking lot there instead. However, a bit further east and north (where all the desert-looking terrain is in the image), and we discovered buildings and more parking lots and a building that said "Washington City Community Center". I suggested that Dad go in and get some information. He quickly came back and said, "You've got to see this!", so we all went in. In addition to several indoor basketball courts, fittness equipment rooms, an indoor track and climbing wall, there was this large aquatic complex for kids
and this pool for lap swimmng.
Since Dad & Ruth knew nothing about this when they commited to buying the house, they considered this a great bonus. Also, next door to their new house is the Covington Mansion, the oldest building (so the marker says) in the area.

Was the picture of Mom and Barb taken before or after the hair cuts?
After.
